We would like to send birthday wishes to Gosford’s longest operating retail business, Mannings Sports, as they celebrate 85 years of continuous service!

Originally starting out in 1930 as a ladies and gents hairdresser, and selling tobacco supplies, owners James and Alice Manning expanded their business to selling rifles, sporting goods and toys by 1954. James was well liked in town and known for his generosity and fairness. In the early days, all of the merchandise arrived by rail to Gosford Station, and hand to be wheeled down by trolley to the back of the store. During the depression, James’ son, Kevin would drive to Sydney in his FJ Holden ute, as goods became more scarce.

Kevin started full time in the business at age 15, as an apprentice barber, but soon decided that wasn’t for him. It was then that the business began to branch out! Kevin worked in the business for 57 years, retiring at 72 years of age. His daughter, Suzanne, took over management in 1997, and works alongside some of her family. Rex Tracey, a well known local, is the store’s firearm specialist, and Sarah Hole is another valued member, who is happy to chat NRL with you!

From its beginnings in 1930as a tobacconist and barber, Mannings is now a modern, independent sporting goods business, specialising in hunting, fishing, football, lawn bowls, darts and fitness equipment, and so much more!

85 years is quite an achievement, so make sure you pop in and support a truly local business!

Engaging your customers using Instagram

According to Sprout Social (2016), Instagram is one of the fastest growing social media platform in the world. So for your business and your brand, it is vital to use Instagram to engage, monitor and track users who interact with your business on the platform.

Instagram has over 400 million monthly active users and 80 million photos added to the platform every day! So, if you are using social media for your business, it makes sense to add Instagram to your strategy!

“ Visual data is easier to digest. When users interact with visual content about your product or service, they are more likely to process and make a purchasing decision. The way Instagram gets users to interact with other visual content is like no other. But for marketers, it has to be a place you’re familiar with or you’ll risk ignoring a major social audience.” (Social Sprout, 2016)

Instagram also makes it very easy for you to create your own unique content to really give your brand its individuality, and highlight the unique business proposition offered by your brand.
