A few years ago now, there was a program here in the Gosford CBD, called Create Innovate Gosford. This program was instituted to encourage creative businesses to locate themselves in our gorgeous city. One of these amazing businesses was Jean Marie Millinery, with the beautiful Jean Marie Visser as the ingenious entrepreneur at the helm.

Several years later, Jean Marie is a much sought-after milliner, creating beautiful bespoke hats and headwear, along with handcrafted sunhats and accessories. Jean Marie uses only the highest quality fabrics and materials in her creations and is meticulous with her craft.

She has been absolutely snowed under in the past few weeks, preparing for the Mountain Magic Festival in the Blue Mountains. This is a very exclusive festival, and Jean was honoured to have been chosen as a stall holder there.

Jean Marie not only makes gorgeous hats, but is very happy to impart her knowledge to others, and is hoping to begin holding workshops in her amazing art deco shop, at 109A Donnison Street, Gosford. Make sure you follow her on Facebook,at Jean Marie Millinery, and head down to see her if you are looking for headwear for the upcoming racing season, or a special event!

Number one secret to a successful business!

Tom OToole

A couple of weeks ago, I attended a workshop facilitated by a fellow called Peter Kenyon, entitled “Keeping the tills ringing”. This workshop was all about how individual small businesses (like yours!) can ensure the success of a small regional city (like Gosford!).

The workshop was inspirational! Peter talked a lot about a small town in Victoria, called Beechworth. It was a little worse for wear, and business was slow since the gaol closed down. Along came a baker called Tom O’Toole, who bought the local bakery and turned the town around. Beechworth is now the number one tourist town in rural Victoria!

Tom now owns 6 bakeries and employs over 70 people. And the number one tip for the success of his business is ‘Positively outrageous customer service’!

So, is your customer service up to scratch? Is your staff giving the best possible service? To find out, take a look at Tom’s blog here. To read more about Beechworth Bakery, have a look here.

Easy graphic design for your small business

Canva-Design-Easily

Do you hop on Facebook, and see all of those custom posts using beautiful photos and inspirational text, and wonder, “Where did they get the money for that?”

Well guess what? You don’t need to pay heaps and engage a graphic designer, or social media manager, you can create them yourself! I have discovered a fantastic design app, called Canva, and best of all, it’s free!

You can use Canva to create not just social media posts, put presentations, flyers, postcards, posters and so much more! There are hundreds of design elements that you can use for free, and hundreds more that cost just US$1. If you get really handy with it, and want more, you can upgrade to Canva for Work, for a relatively small annual fee. And absolutely best of all, it’s an Aussie invention!
